On November 7th, Cartooning for Peace and Cartoonists Rights published a report on the situation of threatened cartoonists around the world. The report was launched during the Forum Talk 9 (“Cartoonist: an endangered profession”) organized as part of the World Forum for Democracy at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
The publication is co-sponsored by the UNESCO Global Media Defence Fund and the Isocrates Foundation, and discusses the different challenges faced by cartoonists across the globe — from increased State censorship in authoritarian contexts to the rise in online violence and harassment. ForHum co-director Alberto Godioli contributed with a section on “Misuses and Abuses of the Law.”
