Dr Alberto Godioli (University of Groningen) and Dr Hawley Johnson (Columbia Global Freedom of Expression) have been awarded an Impact Explorer grant by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) for their project Humor and Free Speech Jurisprudence: Co-Creating Guidelines for Judicial Practice. The project will result in the publication of a toolkit on humor and free speech adjudication, designed for judges, online content moderators and practitioners. Confirmed members of the project’s advisory board include Judge Darian Pavli (European Court of Human Rights), Lady Justice Stella Isibhakhomen Anukam (African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights) and Catalina Botero Marino (co-chair, Meta Oversight Board). A hybrid event to present and discuss the toolkit will take place in New York (Columbia University) on 25 October 2024 — more details will follow soon.
